I started out playing piano and trumpet for several years. I got a bass a few
months back at the urging of some friends so that we could start a band (after talking
to some bassists I heard in Kansas City and corresponding with
Dennis Monahan of Adirondack Guitars). Just like anything else, I initially wondered
if the bass was the right instrument for me, but eventually I realized that I thoroughly
enjoyed it and that it just so happened to be the
perfect instrument for me. My band, Standard of Deviation (if you paid attention in
math class, you may recall the term) is really just in its beginning phase right now
because we do not have a lead guitarist and our
rhythm guitarist and myself are still trying to master our instruments. Our drummer
is great because he has been playing for awhile. Right now I'm mainly playing classic
rock, but I hope to expand into other genres eventually,
namely blues and jazz.
My main musical influences/heroes right now would have to be fellow southpaw
Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Berry Oakley, Geezer Butler, Charles Mingus, and Joel
Quarrington, as well as countless others. I hope to eventually expand my "collection",
try out some upright and fretless, get some great amps and extras. If you have any
questions or comments addressed to me or my fellow band members, please feel free to
email me at jpdavey@lycos.com.
